Rat Rig has opened early-bird preorders for the StrongHold Pro, its latest linear rail CNC machine. Both the StronghHld Pro and the StrongHold, which will be available “in the coming weeks,” according to the OEM’s website, were announced in November and serve as follow-ups to Rat Rig’s popular (and now discontinued) KillerBee CNC machine.

The StrongHold Pro, perhaps obviously, is the more heavy-duty of the new pair, designed for “woodworkers, fabricators, and manufacturers,” according to Rat Rig’s website. It features ball screw transmission on all axes, HG25 linear rails on the X and Y axes, inductive endstops, a double mount, integrated cable management, and other premium features. Cuttable materials include “all plastics suitable for CNC machining;” composites such as carbon fiber and MDF; soft metals such as aluminum, brass, and copper; and thin steel. It is available in three sizes – 1000 x 1000 mm, 1000 x 1500 mm, and 1500 x 1500 mm – with a starting price of €1,897.63 ($2016.71).

Fewer details are currently available for the StrongHold, although it will share certain parts, such as linear rails and lead screws, with the KillerBee – along with a new plate set and frame, plus “superior specs.” The StrongHold will cut many of the same materials as the Pro (except thin steel) and will also be available in three sizes: 750 x 750 mm, 750 x 1250 mm, and 1250 x 1250 mm. Prices start at €979.31 ($1038.31), which is a very competitive entry to the CNC space.

Early-bird preorders for the StrongHold Pro run for 48 hours, although it should be noted that Rat Rig only ships within Europe. Full specs are available on the StrongHold Pro product page. As stated, orders for the regular StrongHold aren’t currently open but should be soon, but there’s a waiting list for updates on that front.
