Following a string of riddles over on Discord, Positron 3D has revealed its plans for 3D Printopia.

Positron 3D’s 3D printing Discord community solved a selection of riddles posted by the firm’s CEO, TheNomad, and as a result broke news that 3D Printopia will see the debut of the Proton, the company’s new 3D printer.

The firm is the creator of the unique and highly-transportable “upside-down” 3D printer called the Positron, and the name Proton appears to be a carefully selected and meaningful name. A positron is a subatomic particle, while a proton is significantly more massive. This clever naming scheme, along with a teaser image of what looks like a larger-scale machine, suggests the new printer will be a bigger and more capable version of the original design. Hence, Proton.

The original Positron was unique with its upside-down printing design, and was also easily able to break down into a transportable product in luggage. It wasn’t cheap, but printers designed in this way are incredibly rare. With another one seemingly on the way, and building off an already successful sibling, it’s easy to see why some might be getting excited about it.

Further information is, for now, unavailable it seems. So, we will have to wait until TheNomad gives us some more puzzles, or the 3D Printopia event.
