OctoPi, OctoPrint’s OS, Updates to Version 1.0.0

OctoPi – essentially a preconfigured RaspberryPi OS image containing OctoPrint and some other 3D printing-aligned goodies – yesterday released an update containing several features of interest.

First up in OctoPi version 1.0.0 is OctoPrint 1.8.6, the latest version of OctoPrint, which was released in late October and contains a small bug fix.

Another feature of note is network monitoring for Wi-Fi connections. The feature acts as a prevention mechanism that monitors users’ Wi-Fi connections, restarting it when necessary without restarting the entire system, thus helping ensure that prints are not interrupted.

There’s also a fix to the “webcamd” daemon loop, avoiding “endless restarting” should there be no compatible camera attached. The same fix also addresses a bug that caused a syntax error when handling non-USB v4l2 devices.

OctoPi 1.0.0 is available to use directly in the Raspberry Pi imager or, if you like doing things yourself, the OctoPi download page, where you can also find full installation instructions. OctoPi 1.0.0 is only recommended for Raspberry Pi 3B, 3B+, 4B, and Zero 2 models.
