The latest Printables design contest has the modular CMF Phone 2 Pro up for grabs in each of the top three prize places, but it should be good for anyone interested in the phone's modularity.
Last month, Nothing announced its next phone, the CMF Phone 2 Pro, with exposed screws that make its back cover modular and the phone a DIYers temptation. Now, the company has partnered with Prusa Research’s Printables 3D model repository for a design contest, where it will give one of the phones away to each of the top 3 entrants.
The phone follows Nothing’s CMF Phone 1, which the company has called “a platform for builders”. The Printables challenge is to “design a back cover, add-on, or accessory that changes how the CMF Phone 2 Pro can look, feel, or function,” so there are plenty of ways to approach the challenge. In addition to the CMF Phone 2 Pro prizes, a Prusa MK4S is up for grabs with first place, CMF Buds Pro 2 and 1200 Prusameters in second, and 800 Prusameters in third.
Nothing held a similar contest on MakerWorld for the CMF Phone 1 – it must have done something for them to launch another. The Phone 2 Pro isn’t here yet, but first looks (like this one from The Verge) have mentioned the limited accessories available to take advantage of the phone’s modularity on launch. Crowdsourcing new attachments pre-release will fill that gap, if you’re willing to 3D print the attachment or order from a 3D printing service.

We’ve already spotted a few more interesting functional designs, like CuraParts’ rotating moneyclip cover and Waskito Widya’s multifunction grip that can pull double-duty as an external battery or storage. Very neat.
The CMF Phone 2 Pro Printables design contest ends on June 14, and allows five entries per user.
