A new 3D printing cleaning product has great potential to improve the way we keep our machines in shape.
A new 3D printer cleaning product has hit the shelves. Alphaprint has been developed to counter the inadequacies of IPA, it says in its marketing material.
IPA has long been somewhat of a best worst solution to keeping a printer clean, being a highly flammable, repulsively stinky, and semi-effective way of taking care of your machine (if it won’t wreck your build plate). Alphaprint is an all-round cleaner and seemingly has a lot going in its favor, being odorless, non-flammable, and environmentally friendly for a start. In those characteristics, it’s the complete opposite of IPA, solving the biggest problems users have with the potent, raw chemical.
For businesses in particular, needing to clean printers frequently and thoroughly, it could prove a big hit. Users relying on resin to produce prints will also soon have specialized resin-centered Alphaprint products available, which is by far and away the hardest printing material there is to clean up after.
Priced at $10 per 500 ml and likely far easier to deal with than its abbreviated alternative, if its claims are true, Alphaprint is something that could drastically improve the way creators keep printers clean.
Time will tell, of course, and we’ll be keeping a close eye on what users are saying about the Alphaprint. 3D printing cleaning products are definitely a neglected area of the hobby, and perhaps this new product has stolen a yard on the competition with this release.
Editor's Note: In our original version of this article, we described Alphaprint as a product by Fillamentum. However, Fillamentum has since contacted us to let us know this was a misunderstanding.
