Tens of millions of people suffer from disruptive snoring and sleep apnea creating a growing market for treatment devices that can be 3D printed.
Airway Management, a U.S.-based medical device company that specializes in oral appliance therapy for sleep-disordered breathing, just received FDA clearance for its Nylon flexTAP, a new 3D printed oral appliance for treating mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea and snoring. The device enters a rapidly expanding global market for sleep apnea treatments, which was valued in the billions and is projected to see significant growth over the next decade, highlighting a major opportunity for 3D printing in this market.
The Nylon flexTAP is a custom-manufactured, patient-specific device that’s 3D printed using medical-grade resin, which the company states is both BPA-free and metal-free.
A significant advantage for clinics is the simplified fitting process that can be achieved with digital 3D scans, and does not require a traditional bite registration. This efficiency can reduce chair time for both patients and dental practitioners, streamlining the treatment process. The device is manufactured in the United States and is available through Airway Labs.
A key feature of the device, the company says, is its patented designed to allow for both vertical and horizontal jaw movement. This movement helps to increase airway space, directly addressing the cause of obstructive sleep apnea.

The launch of the Nylon flexTAP comes as the demand for effective and comfortable sleep apnea solutions is surging. Oral appliance therapy has been a recommended treatment by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine since 2015, solidifying its role as a primary alternative to CPAP machines for many patients. This new device represents the latest entry leveraging 3D printing technology to compete in this valuable healthcare sector.
“The feedback from medical professionals has been positive,” says Charles Collins, CEO of Airway Management, in a press release, commenting on the device’s reported effectiveness and patient comfort. The introduction of innovative, patient-friendly devices like the Nylon flexTAP is poised to capture a share of a market driven by a growing awareness of sleep apnea and a demand for more convenient treatment options.
The Nylon flexTap joins a handful of other 3D printed options, including Silent Nite 3D Sleep Appliance, Panthera Sleep, and EndSnorZ Sleep Appliance, in this increasingly competitive space.
Dental professionals can upload 3D scans and order the Nylon flexTAP via the Airway Labs online portal.
