Easy-Peelzy is a very simple to use magnetic printing surface for your 3D printer. It's soft, flexible and if it doesn't fit your printer, you can cut it into the right shape.
3D Easy Limited is a company of makers based in Hong-Kong who have the aim of making 3D printing easier “for everyone”. In March this year, the makers launched a Kickstarter campaign for a product called Easy-Peelzy.
Easy-Peelzy works as a soft printing surface for virtually any 3D printer. It has two squares of material which have magnets in them. One square is mounted to your print bed, the other magnetically sticks to it.
During printing, your print will stick to the platform but after printing, you can easily pry the part from the print bed. To do this, you can simply take the top material off the base magnet and pull your print off.
This product is clearly one which 3D printing fans feel they need as 140 backers pledged HKD 39,375 (around $5,018.54 USD) to bring this project to life. 3D Easy Limited now has a website from which you can buy an Easy-Peelzy. Prices range from 95HKD (around $12 USD) to 320HKD (around $40 USD).
If you’re hesitant to buy without knowing how well it works, check out the Maker’s Muse unbiased video in which Angus Deveson goes into detail on how well the Easy-Peelzy worked for him.
The Easy-Peelzy fits most desktop 3D printers and, due to how soft it is, you can cut it to shape if not. When using the printing surface there are a few things to remember. For example, the print bed should be kept below 80 degrees Celsius or 176 degrees Fahrenheit. Any hotter than this and the two materials will slowly demagnetize.
This means that the Easy-Peelzy will work well with PLA but not ABS. Deveson also tried out PETG which initially warped, but after increasing the bed temperature to 70 degrees Celsius (158 Fahrenheit) the print worked well.
It’s easy to damage the printing platform if you’re not careful. This means, don’t take a spatula to your Easy-Peelzy as if the soft top is scratched, future prints are more likely to stick. Deveson adds that because of this, he’s unsure of how durable the printing platform will be over time.
However, his overall conclusion of the Easy-Peelzy is that it works well and is best for those who hate scraping their prints off the printing bed.
Something of note is that although 3D Easy Limited claim the product is patent pending and was successful on Kickstarter, Deveson was able to find many similar products on AliExpress.
