“David Bowie is” Exhibit to be Re-Launched as VR and AR Experience
After six years and twelve cities, the "David Bowie is" exhibition has now ended. However, if you didn't get a chance to view the exhibition in person, it will soon be relaunched in AR and VR.
Since 2013, the “Davie Bowie is” exhibition has been on display in twelve cities since its debut at the V&A museum in London. Its aim was to showcase the creative journey of Bowie through his artifacts, personas, and costumes.
But, if you’re disappointed you didn’t get a chance to visit, don’t worry as come fall there will be a new way to pay tribute to the late musician.
By using virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technology, fans will be able to experience recreations of the museum exhibition initially via a smartphone. By next spring, the redesigned exhibition will be available on major virtual reality platforms.
The recreation is the work of the David Bowie Archive, Sony Music, Planeta and the V&A Museum. So far, they’ve released that “visitors” will be able to explore visual spaces, check out 3D scans of artifacts and memorabilia and even try on some of Bowie’s costumes.

The David Bowie is website states: “These new digital versions of ‘David Bowie is’ will add unprecedented depth and intimacy to the exhibition experience, allowing the viewer to engage with the work of one of the world’s most popular and influential artists as never before.”
Currently, there is no exact release date for the AR and VR exhibition. But, at some point in the near future, it’ll be available on all major AR and VR platforms. Proceeds from the exhibit will go towards the V&A Museum and the Brooklyn Museum, however, pricing is also currently unspecified.
