Bambu Studio Given Another Comprehensive Update
Update to Bambu Lab’s slicing software arrives with features to improve print success rate, “fine-tune” settings for height ranges, and more.
Bambu Lab has released another major update to Bambu Studio, adding a bevy of new features, improvements, and bug fixes that work to improve print success, streamline print processes, and more.
Front and center in Bambu Studio V 1.6.0, which is in public beta, is a feature that identifies conflicts between the G-code paths of objects and their supports. When those conflicts are found, an error message appears, requiring users to adjust object positions before printing – and ultimately resulting in increased print success rates.
Also noteworthy is a new setting aligned with a recent firmware update for the Bambu X1 series. With it, X1 printers are able to automatically perform some tasks – such as loading or unloading filaments – previously only possible via the optional AMS attachment.
Meanwhile, an array of features from PrusaSlicer – the open-source slicer from which Bambu Studio is partially derived – have been added with this update. The “Height Range Modifier” feature allows users to “fine-tune” settings such as layer height and infill density for specific height ranges. There’s also an “Advanced Cut with Connectors” feature that allows for the creation and customization of better-fitting connectors, helping users to more effectively print large or intricate models in multiple pieces. Support for the sequential viewing of G-code and the ability to sink models (then slice only what remains above the print bed) round out the new features offered in the update.
A host of improvements has also been implemented in Bambu Studio V 1.6.0. Among them are increased slicing speed of complex models; improved smoothness of tree supports; two support interface patterns tailored to large overhangs; Italian-language support; and the software’s ability to retain print settings for bed leveling, flow calibration, and time-lapse – a time-saving, quality-of-life enhancer that’s sure to reduce user frustration and streamline printing processes. A great number of bug fixes have also been addressed.
In all, Bambu Studio V 1.6.0 is quite comprehensive, arriving with too many new additions to list here. Full release notes, however, are available on the Bambu Lab Github page – where you’ll also find the update itself available for download.
