Bambu Lab is making progress with its firmware updates, so AMS 2 Pros and AMS HTs now work with P- & X-series printers.

May is often seen as a month of fresh starts and new possibilities, and Bambu Lab’s latest firmware update for its P- and X-series machines has provided just that.

Updating to the 01.09.00.00 firmware in the X-series and the 01.08.00.00 in the P-series fully unlocks access to Bambu’s latest evolutions of its AMS systems – the AMS 2 Pro and the AMS HT. These intelligent reflections on the original AMS come with one main headline – on-board filament drying systems. Prior to these updates, that drying function was unavailable. The new AMS boxes could only feed you your filament.

AMS 2 Pro keeps your spools heated at up to 65 °C and even rotates them to keep them evenly toasted, while a new filament feeding system promises 60% better feeding acceleration too. A couple of other quality of life tweaks are present and this thing should take good care of all your standard filament buddies. Except, that’s not all of them…

For the more exotic stuff, you’ll need the specialized AMS HT – specifically designed to take care of your expensive, high-performing filaments one spool at a time. It has a higher drying temperature (85 °C), automatically rotates, and has a screen displaying real-time information on what’s going on inside.

Until now, these more advanced AMS boxes haven’t been compatible with machines in the P and X classes. We expect this firmware update to be welcomed like a long-lost pet, especially by anyone tempted to upgrade their Bambu’s material-juggling systems.

Bambu says the hot and dry AMS twins will be fully compatible with its whole line-up of 3D printers, so A-series owners can keep looking to the horizon. It’s likely that Q3 ’25 will see their firmware updates roll in and completely unlock these AMSs.

Correction – May 7, 2025: Our previous version of this article neglected to mention that the firmware update actually fully unlocked the AMS 2 Pro's capabilities on P- and X-series machines.
