The mother-and-son team behind Construct3D is making waves on Kickstarter with a pair of 3D printers that “blend traditional bamboo and cutting-edge machinery.”

Reliability, print speed, and the right to repair are key pillars in the design of Construct 1 and Construct 1 XL. The company claims the printers’ bamboo paneling has a vibration-dampening effect, which results in higher-quality prints. Both printers also come with E3D Hemera extruders and full-color 7-inch touchscreens. Other promised features include Volcano CHT nozzles that offer “400% more flow than traditional brass nozzles” and black PEI print beds.

Approximately $33,000 – triple the initial goal – has so far been pledged toward the printers’ development, the main differences between each seeming to be nozzle size (the Construct1 uses a 0.4mm nozzle, with the Construct1 XL using a 0.6mm) and build volume, which is larger in the Construct1 XL.

Check out Construct3D’s Kickstarter page for all the specs and further details. While it’s important to remember that Kickstarter campaigns nearly always make big claims, the Construct 1 and Construct 1 XL – at least on paper – certainly seem like something to get excited about.
