Promoting the third season of the “12 Monkeys” TV Show, the SyFy Channel releases a fresh batch of 3D printable models to Thingiverse.

The SyFy Channel continues to expand on their collaboration with Thingiverse. New models are available to download and print to promote the third season of their “12 Monkeys” TV show.

The models are two versions of the Plague Mask seen in the show; one is a mask you can wear, and the other is a rather menacing bust. Their significance is that — in addition to time-travel — the show is set in a post-apocalyptic society where a mysterious virus has wiped out mankind

Since launching last year, the SyFy Channel’s Thingiverse page has steadily grown to offer 42 printable models from its TV properties. In addition to “12 Monkeys”, fans can download and print tie-ins to “The Expanse”, “Killjoys” and “Z-Nation”.

Voodoo Manufacturing has worked with Syfy to design and optimize all show-centric models for 3D printing, and produce them for various events including the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show.

The SyFy Channel is Dedicated to 3D Printing and More

Don’t Miss: Westworld UK Premiere Date Revealed in 3D Printed Model

Cross-promotional synergy is an ugly phrase. Nonetheless it’s a growing industry as far as the worlds of television and 3D printing is concerned.

The History Channel has also been sharing printable props from their “Vikings” TV series with fans. These models are made on their behalf by design studio 3DBrooklyn

Elsewhere, Sky Atlantic commissioned a large 3D printed prop to promote the premiere of “Westworld” in the UK. It was a scale model of a “host” as seen in the show, built on an industrial stereolithographic (SLA) 3D printer.

But it seems as though the SyFy Channel has bigger plans beyond 3D printing. Their Syfy Labs is an in-house think-tank dedicated to exploring virtual reality, 3D printing, second-screen experiences, and Internet of Things integrations.

It’s great to see a cable TV channel about science fiction embracing cutting-edge technologies. Does it actually enhance your enjoyment of the TV show, however? Surveys report that nine out of twelve monkeys prefer it.
