Revealed to the world at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2017, Shining3D’s EinScan Pro+ handheld 3D scanner builds upon the popular EinScan Pro of the year prior.

Billed not as a replacement for the Pro but more a professionally-minded alternative, the EinScan Pro+ offers expanded scanning capabilities, including an HD mode, faster scanning speeds — thanks to the greatly increased number of capture lines — and a wider single scan area.

Additionally, the EinScan Pro+ gains a visual distinction in its spiffy new champagne gold color body; a visual signal of the ‘premium’ quality of this handheld scanner.

Available for approximately $5,300 USD, the EinScan Pro+ costs some $1,300 USD less than EinScan Pro; a not inconsiderable difference. Read on to discover the features and specs at your disposal, should you part with such a chunk of change.

Shining3D EinScan Pro+ 3D Scanner: Review the Specs

Features

The EinScan Pro+ is claimed by the manufacturer, Shining3D, to carry the excellent scanning abilities of the EinScan Pro forward, bringing with it simple and fast scanning across a number of different operation modes.

Packed with innovations not found on the EinScan Pro, the EinScan Pro+ places emphasis on speed, allowing for high detail captures at comfortably high, handheld speeds. This is possible thanks to patented rapid HD scanning technology that projects 100 data scanning lines. Reading at 550,000 points per second, this marks a possible scan speed 7.6 times faster than that of the EinScan Pro and its seven projected scanning lines.

Also differentiating this high-end handheld scanner is the larger scanning range. Here single frame scanning expands to a field of 300 x 170mm, resulting in quicker captures of large objects for a more efficient workflow.

In order to capture a cohesive HD scan, the EinScan Pro+ relies on user-positioned markers, with the system requiring four of the stickers to remain in view at all times.

Besides HD Scanning, which captures at a single shot accuracy of 0.1mm, the Handheld Rapid Scan Mode allows the user to sacrifice some accuracy — dropping to 0.3mm — for efficient capture of large feature rich objects without the use of markers.

Optional add-on accessories are available to expand the feature set of the EinScan Pro+ beyond that of a handheld scanner. For example, the Industrial pack adds an automated turntable and tripod, allowing for high detail capture of small and intricate objects, and use of the system’s Fixed Scan Mode.

Similarly, the optional Color Pack add-on enhances the EinScan Pro+’s color capture abilities, letting the user record full texture and geometry simultaneously in Handheld HD Scan Mode.

Without the Color Pack, you are limited to capturing geometry only.

The EinScan Pro+ launch coincided with the release of Shining3D’s EinScan Software V2.0. To date, this program has rowed through several updates to the most current, V2.7. Notable features include a variety of alignment options to fine tune scans and simultaneous data display, allowing the user to monitor and adjust settings as they scan.

If you plan to scan humans or animals, be warned that the operation range of the Pro+ means you will be up close to the subject, with the scanner strobing its white light LEDs for reading. Not the most comfortable way to scan living subjects.
