The Mosaic Palette entered the scene back in 2014 and made a splash with a successfully funded Kickstarter campaign. Its goal was to bring multi-color 3D printing to any machine and the original device did that in an innovative way.
It did this by taking an input of four filaments and intelligently splicing them into one. This single thread, synchronized with your sliced 3D model, would then feed into your printer to create clean multi-color or multi-material prints.
Since then, Mosaic hasn’t stopped tinkering on the original design, releasing the Palette+ – which could handle flexible materials like TPU and PETG – , the Palette 2 – which boasted a sleeker design – , and the 2 Pro.
Most recently, Mosaic launched the Palette 2S Pro alongside the Palette 2S and the Canvas Hub S.
At $799 USD (plus an additional $139 USD if you want the Canvas Hub S as well), this device isn’t cheap, but it should give you the flexibility to add multi-material printing to just about any 3D printer you’ve got.

Multi-material printing
The 2S Pro allows you to use up to four types of filament in the same print by combining them into a single filament strand.
The process starts with the all-metal drive system that controls filament flow and precisely measures the right lengths from each input. A rotary cutter system is then employed to cleanly slice the filament before it’s connected together.
The Mosaic Palette 2S Pro has an upgraded Splice Core S Pro that connects filament from the four inputs into a single strand, sending the single feed through a PTFE channel where the splicing is finalized. Next, the combined filament is cooled down while maintaining the proper dimensions before it is sent to the 3D printer.
The 2S Pro has automated filament management. When one filament spool runs out, the device will automatically splice another spool to keep the print going.
Canvas Hub S compatibility
For an additional $139, you can get the Mosaic Canvas Hub S, which enables the Palette to communicate between the computer and 3D printer, leading to better calibration, more reliable results, and wireless connectivity to ease the process.

Like previous Palette iterations, everything in the 2S Pro is easily accessible to either upgrade or fix. This gives you complete control over the process.

If you’re already the owner of a Palette 2, there’s no need to purchase an entirely new device. You can get the Palette 2S Pro upgrade kit instead for $149 USD.
Superior warranty
Unlike the Palette 2S, which only has a 12-month warranty, the 2S Pro comes with a 24-month or 50,000-splice warranty.
Zippy filament production speed
Another notable difference between the 2S and the 2S Pro is the filament production speed. The 2S Pro offers a filament production speed between 182 to 280 mm per minute, depending on the material that is being spliced. With the basic 2S, the filament production speed lies somewhere between 144 to 214 mm per minute, which can add up over time.
Enhanced Splice Core
It’s also worth noting that the Mosaic Palette 2S Pro model has an enhanced Splice Core that is machined out of aluminum and provides optimal cooling and splice speeds of up to 20% faster
More Spare parts
The 2S Pro also comes with more spare parts than its non-pro counterpart – something that may come in handy if you have big plans for it and will be using it a lot.
