Budget resin printers are part of a newer class of consumer machines, presenting exciting opportunities in 3D printing for relatively little money. For one, they’re accessible for even total beginners in the 3D printing space. Plus, the price-to-performance ratio is all over the place, with some sub-$300 machines packing performance that matches machines double the price.

The Longer Orange 10 is yet another LCD resin printer that aims to take you far in the world of resin, for $229. With a touchscreen, smart support generation, and a fast proprietary slicer, this machine might just be perfect for your early steps in resin printing.

Read on as we review the specs and pick apart what makes this machine tick.

Fast Proprietary Slicer

The main selling point of this machine is probably the custom slicer Longer offers. It’s claimed to be up to 30 times faster than open source solutions, according to the manufacturer. Obviously, it’s also configured for use with Longer machines from the get-go, so the setup for beginners is minimal, unlike a third-party software solution.

Auto support generation is another pleasant feature in this machine. This is an area many resin workflows can suffer, with some machines requiring models to be transferred between different software for decent support structures. But with the Orange 10, it appears that support generation is built into the slicer.

Manual Leveling

Auto leveling isn’t a common feature in resin machines, and because of the relatively limited implementations, it can be a finicky process. To keep things simple, the Orange 10 uses an old-fashioned manual leveling process for the build platform.

This might actually be more beginner-friendly since auto leveling can be somewhat of a gray area. When it’s manual, issues with adhesion could be easier to trace. Besides, even if the manual approach is less accurate, the side effects won’t be awful on the modest 98 x 55 mm build area.

2.8-inch Touchscreen

A surprising feature at this price point, but it’s certainly welcome. You’ll find this saves you significant time when starting prints, adjusting settings, or switching profiles for different materials.

Of course, there’s nothing too complicated about the operation of the Orange 10, but more natural user interactions never hurt anyone.
