MatterHackers’ Pulse was built using Prusa’s open source design and can be custom assembled based on what features you’re looking for.

Its base price is $799 and it’s a solid choice if you’re planning on printing in primarily PLA and PLA hybrid filaments. It can also handle PETG, Nylon, ABS and other materials. The standard Pulse also comes with a heated print bed and auto bed leveling.

However, the real beauty of this machine is its customizations. Matterhackers charges you for the upgrades, but doesn’t add on an additional charge for the labor.

Possible upgrades include an Olsson Ruby Nozzle, a Bondtech extruder and hardened steel nozzle, a filament run out sensor, a Garolite bed and an enclosure kit (among others).

If you’re looking for a fully customized printer right out of the box that’s already fine-tuned by the folks at MatterHackers, this could be the machine for you.

Bonus feature: This machine has a lot to offer in the way of customization, while also providing high-quality prints.

Snapmaker 2.0

While the Prusa i3 delivers beautiful prints, that’s the limit of its abilities. The Snapmaker 2.0, a jack-of-all-trades, is a 3D printer, laser engraver, and CNC carver all in one.

Though there are several 3-in-1 3D printers on the market, few offer the insane modularity and low price-point of the Snapmaker 2.0, which is the second generation of the digital fabrication tool now called the Snapmaker Original.

The Snapmaker 2.0 is ideal for makers in need of an all-in-one machine. It comes in three sizes to suit your needs, with the smallest, the A150, sporting a modest 145 x 160 x 160 mm build volume, to the A250’s more substantial 250 x 230 x 235 mm, and the A350’s sprawling 350 x 320 x 330 mm.

The machine is easy to assemble, features a stylish touchscreen, a heated bed, and an all-metal aluminum frame.

Out of the box you have three tool head modules with which to make your wonderful things: a single extrusion 1.75 mm 3D printing head, a 1,600 mW diode laser engraver/cutter, and a variable speed CNC milling head with ER11 collett.

It can burn designs into wood, leather and other similar materials. Meanwhile, its CNC mill can handle wood, acrylic, foam and even carbon fiber.

Since the machine comes in three different sizes, it also comes in three different prices, all of which are on special right now. The smallest one is $879, the medium-sized one is $1,099, and the largest is $1,319.

Bonus feature: It does so much more than 3D print. This machine also features a CNC carver plus laser engraving. Plus, it comes in three different sizes.

UP mini 2 (PRNewsFoto/Tiertime)

This mini but mighty machine is an excellent alternative to a Prusa 3D printer if you’re planning on printing with ABS.

Its premium safety features like a HEPA filter and closed box design make it ideal for working with this finicky (and stinky) material.

It also boasts a separate caddy to protect filament from air exposure, can resume a print after a loss of power, touchscreen controls, auto bed leveling and it’s not loud.

Both machines offer some top-tier safety features that are perfect for printing with ABS filament.

They’re compact, easy to operate, boast a HEPA filter to eat up noxious fumes, a separate filament caddy to protect filament from air exposure, has blackout recovery, touchscreen controls, auto-bed leveling and works quietly.

The ES also boasts an upgraded touchscreen and Ethernet connectivity and has a build volume of 120 x 120 x 120 mm.

Though both versions have a limited build volume, unlike the older printer, the ES has an SD card slot.

Regardless of which iteration you pick, the machines’ advantages truly stand out against the competition at their price point.

Bonus feature: This little guy makes ABS printing easy peasy.

This Portuguese 3D printing technology manufacturer is dedicated to creating innovative solutions and it’s B2X300 DIY Kit is nothing short of that.

BEEVERYCREATIVE is perhaps best known for its work on the MELT project for the European Space Agency.

Launched in September 2018, this machine for makers boasts metal dual extruders, a sizeable build volume of 300 x 200 x 300 mm, auto bed leveling and silent trinamic drivers.

The printer handles a wide range of materials, including PLA, ABS, PETG, NYLON, wood filament and metal filament. It has a full metal frame, power loss detection and recovery, a removable glass build plate and filament end detection.

It’s not BEEVERYCREATIVE’s first time creating a Prusa-esque printer. In 2015 it launched the helloBEEprusa, a 3D printer DIY kit.

For this printer, it gathered user feedback on everything from quality control issues, problems and concerns. It also analyzed what competitors were producing and what customers wanted in a 3D printer.

The result is the B2X300, which has received solid reviews and is definitely an alternative to the Prusa, especially if you’re looking for dual extrusion.

Bonus feature: Dual extrusion in a Prusa-esque package
