The amount of things you can do with your phone continues to grow every day. But now, instead of just snapchatting videos of every night out, or using your selfie stick at every tourist spot in town, you can actually make things with your smartphone.
OLO is a device that claims it can transform any smartphone into a 3D printer.
To be clear, the technology isn’t just limited to an iPhone, or an Android phone, but handheld devices of any flavor or operating system.
The company responsible, Solido3D, describe themselves as the “first Italian digital factory”. They reckon their OLO device is a world first. And at the end of this month, the unit will be available to back on Kickstarter for only $99.
Is this smartphone 3D Printer just vaporware?
Although this may appear to be too good to be true, especially as the full mechanics behind the OLO haven’t been revealed yet, it was recently bestowed with a Blue Ribbon Editor’s Choice Award for one of the best inventions at the recent World Maker Faire in New York.
OLO seems like the real deal, in other words.
Solido3D claim they have learnt everything they needed to know from working with many young creatives to understand 3D printing and the market.
The company themselves have a very strong history from having worked with many different clients such as Calvin Klein, Coca Cola, Vodafone and Viacom.
Although the crowdfunding campaign hasn’t been launched just yet, you can sign up to be notified when the Kickstarter is launched.
You can also enter their competition to win a OLO printer ahead of anyone else. Simply upload a selfie on Instagram with the hashtag #olo3d, and tell them what you’d like to create with an OLO.
