The Enterprise In Space program has launched a contest called Print the Future, offering the chance to have your designs 3D printed in space.
The ability to live and work in space could be just around the corner, according to the National Space Society’s Enterprise In Space (EIS) program. But, they need help from the next generation to make this dream come true.
The “Print The Future” contest is a way for EIS to bring some new minds to the task. Some big names are involved in the contest; EIS is launching the competition in partnership with Kepler Space Institute, Made In Space, Sketchfab, 3D Hubs, and Prairie Nanotechnology.
They hope entries will advance additive manufacturing technologies in space and introduce some new concepts. Entrants will be rewarded for their efforts with a range of prizes. These include your name flown aboard the 3D printed NSS enterprise spacecraft and tours at the Johnson Space Center.

How to Enter the Print the Future Contest
If you think you’ve got what it takes to accelerate humanity’s destiny to live in space, you can sign up on the registration page. Each team member will be required to pay a $20 fee.
After signing up, you’ll be sent a welcome letter and a personal account to the EIS Academy. You’ll also be provided with Sketchfab registration information and a Pro Account subscription for one year.
Teams will be required to submit a 1,500-word description of their project with diagrams and appendices or bibliographies.
If you’re successful, all the hard work will pay off. Imagine winning any of the prizes such as having your item printed in space, onboard the international space station.
EIS is also offering up to three test prints on Earth in the Made In Space facilities, scientific evaluation via nano-microscopy at Prairie Nanotechnology, and your results paper published in Ad Astra Magazine.
Impressively, scholarships for up to three people from the Kepler Space Institute ($5000) are also up for grabs. The scholarship is to be applied towards a full certificate program.
