Kodak has signed Smart International as their global 3D printing brand licensee and they’re creating 3D printers for creative professionals.

American technology company Eastman Kodak has signed to have Smart International as the global brand licensee for 3D printing to help the technology company break into the 3D printing market.

To do this, Smart International is helping the former imaging tech company by developing the “KODAK 3D printing ecosystem”. This means Smart International is developing further 3D printing products and services. Kodak has already partnered with Carbon to develop 3D printing materials.

Smart International, as they put it, “is an international group of companies incorporated to provide solutions for the latest technologies, currently focused in 3D printing.”

According to the press release, there is an initial line of 3D printers, a range of filaments and a 3D printing service ready. This includes a “KODAK Portrait 3D printer”.

This 3D printer can create high-quality designs which Kodak believe will be useful for architectural studios, creative workspaces, or classrooms. The company also boasts filament with a low moisture content. As well as this, it also has a high melt flow index, precise diameter, and roundness.

“We are excited to take the Kodak brand into 3D printing and pioneer a best in class series of desktop printers and materials designed specifically for creative professionals,” said Roberto Gawianski, CEO, Smart International.

Expanding into the World of 3D Printing

“Professional 3D printing is a fast-evolving growth category Kodak has had its eye on for a while. We are happy to add a strong and innovative licensee like Smart International to our portfolio of brand licensees,” said Joel Satin, VP Director of Brand Licensing.

Smart International promises to provide only products that are suitable and reliable enough for professionals. They add on their website that their aim is to help engineers and designers create by providing high-quality software, electronics, mechanics, and materials.

Get your cards to the ready as you can buy Kodak 3D printing filaments from this December. However, the KODAK Portrait 3D Printer won’t be available until Q1 2018. We’ll keep you up to date.
