MosaicManufacturing created the perfect USB drive case for Lego fans and uploaded the result of their work to Thingiverse so you can 3D print it too.

If you’re occasionally saddened by the fact that you can’t take your Lego figures to work, now you have an excuse. Adafruit Industries posted a time lapse of an awesome 3D printed Lego figure which holds a USB drive.

Is there any better way to carry around your USB drive than in the body of a Lego? We think not.

The creators of this awesome design are MosaicManufacturing. “Is that Lego figure’s head stuck in our computer?! It certainly looks like it with this multi-color Lego figure USB drive case,” they write on Thingiverse.

The company makes Palette+. This is a device that can upgrade many 1.75mm single-extruder printers to print in four colors or materials at the same time.

However, as many of the comments in the YouTube video point out, the waste block is far larger than the print itself. Perhaps 3D printing a Lego figure in one color would have saved a lot of time and filament. But, would it look as cool as this:

3D Printing a Lego Figure USB Drive Case

To print the Lego figure, MosaicManufacturing used a Type A Machine Pro. They also chose to use blue, orange and gray PLA filament.

The print time took 9 hours and 20 minutes. They also used a .2mm layer / .4mm nozzle and 10% Infill.

When it comes to the final print, only 6g was used for the Lego figure and 48g was wasted. It’s not the most environmentally friendly print, but this could be changed by printing in one color. Another option would be to print the individual parts and then glue them together.

But, the result is certainly a cool idea. If you’re searching for Christmas present ideas, this could work. Check out the design on Thingiverse and get printing!
