A state-of-the-art road race bike which combines 3D printed titanium lugs with carbon fibre tubes, will be debuted at the Bespoked UK Handbuilt show next week.

The company launching this bike is Australian brand Bastion Cycles who are a startup based in Melbourne, founded by three R&D specialists at Toyota Australia.

These specialists have been able to utilize their access to advanced manufacturing technology in order to create an impressive road bike.

This road race bike is one of the few created recently which manages to use 3D printing to compete with conventionally manufactured frames.

Titanium Frames, 3D Printed

The company said to Road.cc that using 3D printing has allowed them to “fuse highly complex shapes from titanium that in turn enables them to engineer a very special bike frame that combines the best features of carbon fibre and titanium to create a race bike ‘par excellence’”.

What makes these Bastion bikes so special is that they are being sold directly through the website and can be configured by each customer before they even place an order.

Once you have fine-tuned your design using the company’s software, you can follow the production process from beginning to end.

However, something you may want to keep in mind is how much the Bastion road race bike will set you back. The starting price is a pretty huge $7,500 AUD (£4,021)

But, for this, your bike does include a bespoke service and you will have a frame which is fitted to you. Perhaps, if you’re interested, you should think of this as a lifetime investment, rather than just a bike.

You can definitely consider this bike for life too as each frame has a lifetime warranty and a crash or damage repair service which has been described as “generous”.
