Wohlers Associates and Materialise are offering a three-day course in design for additive manufacturing (DfAM) in Leuven, Belgium.

Would you like to learn more about designing for 3D printing? Consulting firm Wohlers Associates have teamed up with additive manufacturing specialists Materialise for a special course teaching valuable skills.

The three-day course is called Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM), and is intended for people who work in aerospace, automotive, medical, and industrial machinery.

The course will cost €2,695 for three days. This price includes both instruction and hands-on learning, as well as refreshments. It will take place at the Materialise headquarters location in Leuven, Belgium from May 31st to June 2nd, 2017.

“We are very happy to collaborate with Materialise, a company with an outstanding reputation and extraordinary track record,” said Terry Wohlers, principal consultant and president of Wohlers Associates.

It will be the third such course from Wohlers and co; which was previously offered at the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center.

During the three days, instruction will be both extensive and provided by experts. Whether you want to learn about how to reduce the amount of parts in a print, or learn about topology optimization, this course could cater for you.

(If you’re wondering, topology optimization is a technique of using mathematics to decide where to place material. This is a great way to optimize strength-to-weight ratio.)

The course also promises to teach students how to reduce part numbers, assembly time and labor through 3D printing.

Wohlers continues: “Designers, engineers, and managers wanting to learn how to design products for AM will benefit from more than 55 years of combined company experience at Materialise and Wohlers Associates.”

You’ll also be taught how to use CAD and special software tools. As well as this, 3D scanning technology and industrial AM equipment will be on hand to use at Materialise; this way, attendees can also assess their printing results.

The lead instructor for the course is associate consultant Olaf Diegel, PhD. Wohler adds: “Olaf has created more than 80 commercial products and is an engaging instructor, making him ideal for the course… The people at NASA had great things to say about him.”

Other than yourself, the only requirements are that you bring a laptop with CAD software installed. Want to find out more? Head over to the Wohler Associates website.
