Knit Happens
by Carolyn Schwaar Oct 26, 2026
This DIY Bambu Lab A1 mod weaves yarn directly into 3D prints,

just don't ask it to knit you a sweater. Researchers at TU Delft want your Bambu Lab A1 to take up knitting. They've designed FilaLoom, an open-source DIY attachment using a tool-changing system to alternate between extruding plastic and embedding yarn into prints, producing everything from squishy, fabric-like surfaces to woven structures and cable-driven moving parts. The mod STLs, assembly instructions, and Grasshopper scripts for generating custom G-code are all free so you can give your own A1 a crafty little identity crisis.
