XJet is ready to unveil the Carmel Pro at Formnext 2025, with researchers and SMEs firmly in mind.
Long an established player in advanced additive manufacturing, XJet is seeking to drastically expand accessibility to its metal and ceramic 3D printing technology at Formnext 2025. Ahead of its showcase at the event, XJet has announced the Carmel Pro, a new system that might, for the first time, place its proprietary NanoParticle Jetting (NPJ) technology within reach of small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) and research institutes.
XJet says the Carmel Pro has been designed to directly impact the cost barrier that has long restricted access to high-end metal and ceramic additive manufacturing – naturally, the next question regards numbers. XJet has confirmed the Carmel Pro will require a 60% to 70% lower initial investment than its existing industrial Carmel platforms. Such a reduction in the initial outlay could well have the potential to bring industrial-grade, powderless 3D printing to a wider range of organizations.
According to XJet CEO Guy Zimmerman, the company is aiming to serve startups developing breakthrough medical devices, university labs pushing materials science, and independent jewelry designers who have historically been “locked out” of the technology. The Carmel Pro should provide these kinds of customers with the same detail, density, and surface quality capabilities of that found in XJet’s large-scale production machines.
A critical technical feature of the Carmel Pro that XJet likes to highlight is four-channel multi-material printing capability. This allows for direct material jetting and opens the door to wider operational flexibility. The system is also fully compatible with XJet’s entire portfolio, including technical ceramics, metals, and precious metals, making it a powerful tool across a diverse selection of applications.
The foundation of the Carmel Pro is XJet’s user-friendly, powderless process, which jets material and a soluble support medium simultaneously. This approach inherently eliminates the need for manual powder handling, enhancing safety and dramatically simplifying post-processing. Furthermore, the compact system incorporates smart automation, including single-button job starts and guided setup, designed to facilitate operation by non-expert users and minimize downtime with job-turnarounds under 20 minutes.
The Carmel Pro is currently available for pre-booking, with XJet scheduled to present the system at its booth (11.0-D11) at Formnext 2025. Commercial availability for the new printer is set to begin in the second quarter of 2026.
