Wacker Chemie A.G, a chemicals company, has opened an ACEO Open Print Lab in Ann Abor, Michigan, which will focus on developing advanced solutions for silicones.
“We are pleased to announce another milestone in ACEO’s history with the launch of the Open Print Lab in Ann Arbor,” said Dr. Bernd Pachaly, the head of Project 3D Printing at Wacker Silicones. “North America is one of the leading markets in additive manufacturing. Our new facility brings 3D printing with silicones much closer to potential customers in the region.”
The new lab in Ann Arbor builds on the success of the company’s ACEO Open Print Lab in Burghausen, Germany, which was opened in 2017.
At the American facility, there are two 3D printers for printing silicone rubber in differing hardnesses and colors. ACEO 3D printing technology can be used for producing replacement parts, prototyping and serial manufacturing.

Furthering the Global Network for Silicone Rubber 3D Printing
Plans to expand into Ann Abor were announced in September last year. Wacker explains that this latest ACEO Open Print Lab furthers its global network for silicone rubber 3D printing and supports the growth of the ACEO footprint.
Just like at the facility in Burghausen, Germany, the lab in Ann Arbor will offer workshops for up to four people and will focus on pre-defined targets. Customers can also expect training and hands-on tutorials so they can get to grips with the benefits of 3D printing with silicone.
“Our business partners in the region want to understand how their ideas and products can be brought to market with our support,” said Wacker Silicones vice president Ian Moore. “Wacker’s Silicone R&D Center in Ann Abor was designed to develop advanced and forward-looking solutions for silicones. With the new Open Print Lab, we can significantly expand our local portfolio and contribute to the growing demand of the market.”
