Ultimaker just released the stable version of Cura 4.5.

The latest version of the popular open-source slicing software offers new features, most of them stemming from the open-source community.

It also coincides with the launch of the improved Ultimaker Marketplace, allowing you to browse, search, and subscribe to plugins via a new online interface.

Here are some of the most important new features:

  • Brim distance:  You now can define a gap between brim and model, resulting in easier removal and reducing chances of leaving blemishes or damage to finished prints.
  • Infill mesh planning: This new feature optimizes the order in which infill meshes print their parts. It takes the previous location into account rather than only the starting location.
  • Bridge over low-density infill: This setting determines if the infill density in a location is lower than the specified infill density, showing that the skin and walls above it should be treated as bridging.
  • Layer preview number: In preview mode, the layer slider number is now at the top, instead of on the left, resulting in a neater fit next to the “Settings” panels.
  • Marketplace sync: Cura now syncs plugins and print profiles downloaded from the Ultimaker Marketplace. If changes are detected, an option to sync a list of available packages will become available.

Ultimaker also fixed also over 4,300 issues and added new printer profiles in this release.

You can download Cura 4.5 from Ultimaker’s website and find out more about this release.
