Sovol 3D is set to launch a new CoreXY 3D printer on April 18: the SV08.

The fully open-source 3D printer is a so-called “tribute” to the DIY Voron 2.4 complete with Klipper firmware – and takes notes from both.

There’s “quad gantry leveling”, for example: a Voron 2.4 feature that leverages four independent Z motors to tram the printer in an effort to improve print accuracy and success rates. The SV08’s build volume of 350 x 350 x 345 mm is also very similar to the Voron 2.4’s largest (pre-configured) version – as are its linear rails and AC-powered heat bed.

There are a few non-Voron features on the SV08. These include a filament runout sensor, built-in handles on the base of the printer, a magnetic toolhead cover, a ceramic heater block, and a camera, to which users can connect and monitor prints via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. An optional enclosure set will also be available.

Meanwhile, native Klipper features such as pressure advance, input shaping, and PID tuning all take aim at print quality. These will undoubtedly be appreciated by users, especially considering the SV08’s potentially quality-sacrificing claimed max acceleration of 40,000 mm/s2, and print speeds that make the machine fast enough to print a Benchy in 11 minutes and 30 seconds.

There’s no official word on pricing as of this writing, although a first-look video posted on The Next Layer YouTube channel (who Sovol says “consulted” on the printer) says the MSRP will be under $600.

However, other content creators who have had their hands on the SV08 are already voicing concerns: YouTuber Nero3D, for instance, calls the printer “unfinished”, pointing to bare sheet metal near wires as a less-than-ideal design choice, among other complaints.

You can find more about the SV08 on its product page, where we expect pricing information to be made available soon.
