Makerfabs Releases Matouch AC Dimmer
An open-source dimmer controller with an ESP32-S3 microcontroller and a rotary knob with a built-in touchscreen, this device is ripe with DIY opportunity.
Makerfabs has released the Matouch AC Dimmer, an open-source dimmer controller that allows users to control functionalities like light brightness and motor speed of electronic devices.
The controller functions the exact same way as a light dimmer switch you’d seen in a residential home or office: by altering the AC current in a process called phase-cut dimming.
The Matouch uses Wi-Fi and Bluetooth-compatible ESP32-S3 microcontroller with 16MB of flash storage, and 8 MB PSRAM. It also arrives with a 1.28-inch touchscreen that’s built into a rotary knob (think thermostat control in smart homes).
Use cases here run the gamut. In terms of 3D printing, fan control and lighting – should your printer have LED strips or interior lamps – are two of the most obvious. You could also connect it to an AC-powered heated bed, or precisely control heaters in an enclosed machine. So long as it has an AC current, you can ostensibly control it.
