The latest entry to Ford Motor Company’s “Raptor” nameplate is neither car nor truck nor SUV – it’s a free, 3D printable wheelchair for man’s best friend.

You read that right. Introduced by the iconic automobile manufacturer’s Mexican branch, the Ford P-Raptor places a focus on “off-road capabilities” for dogs with mobility issues. Its modular design means that the wheels can be mounted on the front or back of the chair, with an adjustable harness allowing dogs big and small to strap in and start adventuring.

There are also headlights and a front grille – adding robustness, utility, and an all-around cool factor – as well as space to attach an electric motor to the wheels for superior paw-formance. An angled rear suspension adds additional stability, and a pivot axis on the chair’s sidebar allows dogs to sit during use.

Ford has also promised the P-Raptor’s structure will be free to 3D print, with the aforementioned electric motor and headlights presumably available at an additional cost or acquired separately. “All you have to do is enter the measurements of the dog and the design file can be downloaded for free,” says Ford, “generating parts that can be easily assembled.” The download page doesn’t appear to be live yet, but we’ll update this article when it is.

From the looks of the render showcasing the wheelchair’s slick design, assembly should be an easy, few-step process – making an already accessible gesture even more so. However, should you choose to let your dog use a P-Raptor, we have a small request: send us pics or videos. Or better yet, both. Please send both.

Update: Ford has told All3DP that the P-Raptor is currently in the prototype stage, and expected to be ready for download and 3D printing in 2024. Presumably, this time will be used to prepare the download portal Ford previously said would only require users to input their dog’s dimensions to receive their free, personalized P-Raptor model. More details will be revealed in the future, so check back and subscribe to All3DP’s semi-weekly email newsletter to see the news as it happens.
