With the successful release of the Creator 3 Pro in 2021, FlashForge USA continues to double down its efforts in the commercial market with the release of the Creator 4. The Flashforge Creator 4 is a large format 3D printer specifically for industries across design, engineering, manufacturing, and more. Although it falls under the Creator series 3D printers, it is a totally different machine compared to the Creator 3 both in its print capabilities, footprint, and build volume.

Sticking to its Roots: Flashforge Provides 3D Printing to All

Flashforge started back in 2011 by bringing desktop 3D printing into the home. The brand was popularized by its Creator 1 series 3D printer that gave hobbyists and tinkerers an open-source machine to make and bring designs to life. Throughout the decade, as the adoption of 3D printing increases across numerous sectors, FlashForge USA has also expanded its product lines to cater not only to consumers but also commercial users, as well as those in schools. Today, Flashforge printers can be seen within universities, design studios, print farms, and production lines.

Meet the Flashforge Creator 4

Right off the bat, the Flashforge Creator 4 is much bigger than its predecessor, the Creator 3. Its chamber has a build size of 15.7 x 13.8 x 19.7in, which is four times larger than the total build volume offered by the Creator 3 Pro.

The build chamber is also fully enclosed, which allows it to maintain a consistent temperature of up to 65°C. This is especially important in reducing thermal contraction that is common with other 3D printers and further improves the dimensional accuracy of the printed object. Also, the removable print bed is both magnetic and flexible, which makes removing objects a breeze.

Creator 4 is one of the few large-format 3D printers on the market that uses an interchangeable independent dual extruder system (IIDEX). This unique system allows the print heads to simultaneously move independent of one another. This enables various print modes such as duplication, where it can print two identical objects at the same time and decrease the total operating time by half.

Other modes include dual color printing, mirroring, and support. The Creator 4 comes in three different configurations (4-S and 4-A). Each configuration is equipped with different sets of extruders that are interchangeable and can be easily swapped out to print different materials.

The 4-S comes with extruders that can reach temperatures up to 360°C for printing carbon fiber composite and glass fiber reinforced thermoplastics. But perhaps the most notable is the Creator 4’s ability to print metal filament, even those made up of 80% stainless steel and 20% polymer content.

Here’s a list of advanced filaments that each extruder configuration is compatible with:

  • Extruder-HS: PA-CF, PA-GF, PP-CF, PP-GF, PC-ABS, PET-CF, PPS, CF
  • Extruder-HT: ABS, ASA, PA, PC, PEG, PLA, PP, PC-ABS
  • Extruder-F: TPB, TPC, TPE, TPU86A-98A

Suffice to say, users will come to appreciate the ease of use the Creator 4 offers. The 7” IPS touchscreen display is large enough to navigate through the different settings and print modes. The 16-point automatic print bed leveling can also be started from the menu. This means the Creator 4’s sensors will ensure the platform is properly leveled so that the printed objects will come out flawless – every time.

Other features of the Creator 4 include the ability to print through Wi-Fi and monitor the entire print process through its built-in HD camera. The intelligent filament feed system will pause the print job if filament runs out. And in case of power outage or failure, the system will resume where it left off.
