3D printing parts and spares manufacturer E3D found itself suddenly scrambling to change the name of their new Hermes extruder ahead of the product’s Friday launch.

“We are obliged to change the name of the extruder formerly known as Hermes,” wrote E3D marketing manager Georgia Willans in an email. “An international company of the same name was concerned about a conflict with their brand.”

The rename, however, “worked out perfectly” assured Willans. The just-launched Hermes is now dubbed the Hemera, after a Greek goddess, as all the company’s hot ends and extruders share names with Grecian gods.

E3D announced the dual-drive extrusion system Hemera at TCT Birmingham earlier this year. The company says its device comes in both Bowden and direct drive, boasts a dual-drive, all-metal drive train and can print flexibles.

“E3D Hemera is our highest performing product to date and we anticipate it to be highly disruptive,” said E3D co-founder Sanjay Mortimer in a press release.
