With more capabilities comes more projects, as well as the files for them. And they've gotta be found somewhere.

Bambu Lab has launched a new section of MakerWorld for “laser & cut models”, complementing the company’s latest H2D 3D printer and multi-modal making machine by adding laser cutting and engraving, and cutting knife files to the now-expanded repository.

The section quickly swelled to over 100 files, mostly consisting of laser cutting projects, but we spy a few neat cutting module pop-up cards by MakerWorld user 2d模型小王子, and a few more.

Multi-modal projects – those involving more than one kind of toolhead – are still absent from MakerWorld. Bambu Lab mentions this on its Discord and suggests that, “for now”, users cross-link related project files from their respective sections of the repository. Hopefully, that means we’ll see a more fluid system for such projects soon.

If you’re a creator with a backlog of laser and cutting files to share, MakerWorld, with its rewards system, might be an attractive place to start uploading your files – especially while the section is just getting off its feet. The system allows you to earn points towards MakerLab products or $40 Bambu Lab gift cards for 490 points. Distinct “exclusive points” (which come from models exclusive to the platform) can be withdrawn as cash, but it can be a tough system to crack, with each exclusive point equaling $0.066 and a minimum withdrawal of $100 (1515.16 exclusive points).

The platform’s rules are set up to make even models with limited interactions earn 15 points for every 10 downloads before 50, and gradually slide down from there: 12 points for every 25 downloads before 500, 20 for every 50 downloads before 1000, and 30 points for every 100 downloads beyond that. Multipliers are possible through user-awarded “boosts” that also favor niche designers.

Mind you, these files are by no means exclusive to Bambu Lab’s hardware. If you have a third-party laser cutter and engraver or a cutting machine at home, you can make use of MakerWorld’s new section, too.
