Bambu Lab has reduced the price of its A1 Mini cantilever 3D printer by $50, bringing its MSRP to just $249 and $399 bundled with the AMS lite. The price drop comes in step with new firmware version 1.2, which introduces a handful of useful features to the affordable machine.
The A1 Mini was already our favorite 3D printer for beginners for its affordable price and straightforward, almost appliance-like operation Bambu Lab is known for. Its new v1.2 firmware only adds to that, introducing detection for “air printing” that will identify filament clogs and pause prints, nozzle clumping; a toggleable feature that will probe the nozzle every 8 grams of printing to check for improper extrusion that could lead to clogs or damage, and build plate detection to save everyone a headache when they’re particularly forgetful.
The new features handle some of the hurdles beginners could face, even with the modern, streamlined 3D printing experience Bambu Lab is often credited with introducing. They’ll certainly save even experienced printers ample time and material from detected clogs.
Firmware v1.2 also introduces remote SD card browsing via Bambu Studio to the A1 Mini – a feature absence All3DP bemoaned during our Bambu Lab P1S review. That omission was rectified in the P1 Series with P1 firmware v1.5, and we’re pleased to see the quality-of-life feature also added here.
These changes come after a rough start to the year for Bambu Lab’s A1 Series. In early February, the company recalled all of its full-size A1 3D printers due to concerns over the machine’s heatbed cable. Despite aesthetic similarities, the A1 Mini was not affected.
