A 3D Printed Nintendo Switch 2 Model is Floating Around the Internet – And CES
Showcased at gaming perhiperal-maker Genki’s booth at CES, the model looks like a 3D printed version of the as-yet-announced Switch 2, potentially revealing its larger size and screen.
In the months leading up to what many gamers and leakers are predicting to be a Spring release, we’ve begun to see more and more leaks surrounding the next Nintendo console: the long-awaited follow-up to the enormously popular Switch console being called the Switch 2. Now, it looks like there’s even a pseudo-official 3D printed mockup of the machine making its way around the internet.
The model is on display at gaming peripheral company Genki’s booth at this year’s CES. It’s about as detailed a look of the as-yet-announced machine as we’re likely to get until Nintendo itself pulls back the curtain – unless, of course, you count the full-color video render on Genki’s website.
The leaks don’t stop at Genki, either; gaming journalist Steve Hemmerstoffer, who often leaks tech news under the X account @OnLeaks, has shined light on an article that also shows apparent Switch 2 renders, as well as the device’s purported dimensions. Couple that with the mountains of evidence on the r/GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, and it looks like we’ve got a stew going.
The 3D printed Switch 2 model is especially interesting for its physicality; we can see the purported console in hand. All told, its appearance isn’t especially surprising. It looks like an updated, sexier (and presumably more powerful), Switch, with a larger screen (8.1 inches, if the article Hemmerstoffer links to is correct) and an overall size that The Verge, in its coverage, compares to a Steamdeck.
Details on the model itself, however, aren’t readily available. While you can dig up plenty regarding the Switch 2 – take its rumored magnetically attached Joycons, for instance – we’re also interested in how the model came to be. Based on The Verge’s reporting, which says that several peripheral and accessory brands – including DBrand – have access to similar 3D models, it seems fair to speculate that it was provided by Nintendo and is, therefore, legitimate. With how detailed this model looks, we doubt we’ll have much longer to wait until we see actual pictures of the console.
