Starting at $1,499, architects, designers, and field engineers get synchronized geometry, imagery, and AI-generated 2D floor plans from a single tripod setup.

Scanning large spaces usually requires two separate passes, one for geometric LiDAR data and another for high-resolution panoramic imagery, followed by tedious manual alignment.

The new 3DMakerpro Owl eliminates that bottleneck by capturing 360° point clouds and 4K HDR panoramas simultaneously from a single tripod setup. Aimed at architects, interior designers, and field engineers, the spatial scanner extracts automated 2D floor plans in one click, bringing professional terrestrial scanning down to a $1,499 launch price.

Single-Setup Capture: How the Owl Syncs Point Clouds & Panoramas

Set the Owl on a tripod, start the scan from an iPad or a smart phone, and you’ll record geometry and imagery from the same station. With a separate 360° camera and no manual alignment of photos to the point cloud afterward, there’s no second pass necessary.

The Owl’s LiDAR collects 192,000 points per second across a 360° horizontal and 280° vertical field of view, with accuracy of 5 mm at 10 m, a scan radius of 0.5 to 60 m at 20% reflectivity, and a 120-m maximum range. The 905-nm laser is Class 1 (IEC 60825-1:2014), making it safe to run in occupied buildings during operational hours.

Automated Layouts: AI-Powered 2D Floor Plan Extraction

Once a space is scanned, the Owl’s AI floor plan extraction generates a 2D plan in one click. Room dimensions come straight from the scan data, eliminating the need for tape measures, laser distance meters, or redrawing layouts by hand.

This removes a step between site visit and drawing board, especially when it comes to renovation quotes or space planning. Users can then edit and export plans directly in JimuMeta, a platform for editing, sharing, and showcasing 3D spaces.

Built-in Imaging: 4K HDR Panoramas for Shadow & Highlight Detail

Bright windows and dark corners in the same frame usually mean losing detail in one or the other. The Owl’s three 48-MP cameras capture 4K panoramas with HDR, ensuring window highlights and indoor shadows both retain clarity. This is especially helpful for designers checking finishes, facilities teams logging fixture conditions, or real estate agents assembling virtual tours.

Hardware Specs & Power: Portable Design Built for Fieldwork

The Owl measures a compact 199 x 139 x 100 mm and weighs just 1.6 kg. Its 12,000-mAh battery runs for about two hours, and can continue operating on external power while charging via 65-W USB-C PD, meaning a standard power bank can carry it through a full day on site.

An onboard 8-core 2.4-GHz processor, 4 GB of RAM, and a 32 GB SSD with TF card expansion handle data directly on the device, which connects over USB-C and Wi-Fi 5, and is controlled via an iPad running an M1 chip or newer.

Target Applications: Where the 3DMakerpro Owl Shines

3DMakerpro highlights several deployment scenarios for the Owl:

  • Construction site scanning: Record progress and compare as-built conditions against design models.
  • Interior space capture for design: Provide architects and interior designers with a measured base for remodels and fit-outs.
  • Roadwork survey and infrastructure inspection: The 120 m range covers long stretches of road and structures from fewer setups.
  • Underground parking facility documentation: Large, repetitive spaces with columns and uneven lighting benefit from wide coverage and HDR imaging.

Software Ecosystem & File Formats: CAD and BIM Compatibility

The Owl’s scans are processed in RayStudio, which is free and generates point clouds and panoramas. Users can then export to universal point cloud formats, outputting standard files for use in CAD, BIM, and 3D modeling tools, including PLY, E57, OBJ, and PNG.

RayCraft, a paid add-on, extracts building structure for cloud editing, while JimuMeta handles online showcases, sharing, and floor plan editing and export.
