1. Best-Selling 3D Printer at Amazon: Monoprice MP Select Mini ($275)

5

The Monoprice MP Select Mini is an impressive 3D printer for a very low price. It has a heated print bed; it’s sturdy and simple to operate, and it produces reliable and consistent prints. If you don’t expect the quality of a $2000 machine, this a great little 3D printer. The machine isn’t perfect, of course. There’s a curious anomaly with variable temperatures while the hotend is in use, and it tends to fail if printing at high speeds. The calibration process is a bit of a pain. And the supplied AC power brick died within 12 hours.

Sample Review of this 3D Printer at Amazon:

“This little printer does a fantastic job. No clogs (though they will come, as is the inherent nature of 3D printing), five to ten minute setup, operator’s manual very well written. All my prints have been solid.

I’ve also used an Ultimaker 2, and honestly, unless you need a building platform larger than 120mm cubed, don’t worry about getting a “better” printer. This thing rocks.”

2. Best-Selling 3D Printer at Amazon: Monoprice MP Maker Select ($343)

Monoprice Maker Select

The marketing blurb is very excitable for the Monoprice Maker Select 3D: “At less than the price of a new gaming console, give the gift of creativity!” But yeah, it’s a pretty compelling package. Tighten six screws and you’re ready to 3D print in just 10 minutes. The original design for this best-selling 3D printer at Amazon comes from the Wanhao Duplicator i3, which in turn is based on the Prusa i3 design. Features include a heated build plate, and it can print with most type of FDM filaments.

Sample Review of this 3D Printer at Amazon:

This printer is my first foray into 3D printing and I am seriously impressed. My kids gave it to me for Christmas and on sale, they got it for right around $300 – excellent considering it is pre-built and has a pretty large build volume.

This printer is a rebranded Wanhao Duplicator i3, which you need to know because there is loads of helpful info and modifications on the net for the Wanhao i3. Search for both when you have questions and issues.”

3. Best-Selling 3D Printer at Amazon: XYZprinting da Vinci Mini ($269)

xyzprinting-da-vinci-mini

The XYZprinting da Vinci Mini is a new addition to XYZprinting’s extensive range of desktop 3D printers. The Mini is strictly aimed at children and complete beginners. The build volume at 150 x 150 x 150 mm is quite small, but the affordable price of 269$ doesn’t come from nothing. At the same time, the 3D printer can only print with PLA filament, since the aluminum build plate isn’t heated. However, the printer does have an auto calibration feature.

WiFi enables the da Vinci Mini to be operated wirelessly. This means that you can place your 3D printer anywhere in your house and still be able to access it via the WiFi connection. The printer has a LED indicator to show what state the 3D printer is in. XYZprinting’s XYZware is a 3D printing slicer that lets you easily connect to your da Vinci Mini through your home network.

Features: XYZprinting da Vinci Mini

  • Filament: PLA (proprietary)
  • Technology: FDM
  • Build Volume: 150 x 150 x 150 mm
  • Dual Extrusion: No
  • Highest Resolution: 100 microns
  • Filament (mm): 1.75

Sample Review of this 3D Printer at Amazon:

“This is a good starting 3D printer. The software included is okay. The only problem I have with it is that is uses chipped filament reels to make absolutely sure that you have to buy their filament. Also, they include filament with the printer. Truly out of the box printer, ready to go.”

4. Best-Selling 3D Printer at Amazon: FlashForge Creator Pro ($899)

FlashForge Creator Pro

FlashForge is sitting pretty in the Amazon 3D printer best-seller list this month, with two of their models in the top 10. The first, the Creator Pro was the best-selling 3D printer at Amazon in July. It is a solid choice for anyone who needs a budget-friendly, reliable 3D printer that delivers quality results.

The FlashForge Creator Pro features dual extruders, a sturdy solid steel frame, a heated bed, and a transparent cover that effectively seals the chamber from outside temperature interference. There’s also an integrated LCD screen and control panel, and a warp-resistant aluminum build platform.

Features: FlashForge Creator Pro

  • Filament: All FDM filament types (ABS, PLA, PET etc.)
  • Technology: FDM
  • Build Volume: 225 x 145 x 150 mm
  • Dual Extrusion: Yes
  • Highest Resolution: 100 microns
  • Filament (mm): 1.75
  • Connectivity: USB, SD Card

  • Market price: $899

Sample Review of this 3D Printer at Amazon:

After researching for months, I finally decided this would be my new 3D printer. The instructions and software were wonky but the assembly went smooth and about 90% of my prints have been successful, which I’m happy about. The machine works well if you have it dialed in well. The heated bed is nice. The dual extruders are nice. Setting up new filament is pretty easy. While I had my doubts about this product at first, it’s been workhorse and I recommend it.

5. Best-Selling 3D Printer at Amazon: QIDI TECH I ($699)

QIDI Tech I

The QIDI TECH I is a dual extruder desktop 3D printer that looks strangely familiar… Yup, it’s a FlashForge Creator Pro clone (which in turn is a clone of the MakerBot Replicator). Yes, it’s getting hard to keep track of all the copycats.

The feature set is familiar, too. Dual extrusion, heated build plate, all metal enclosed frame, acrylic cover, and an LCD control panel. The only point of difference is the price, where the QIDI TECH I comes in at nearly $200 bucks cheaper.

Features: QIDI TECH I

  • Filament: All FDM filament types (ABS, PLA, PET etc.)
  • Technology: FDM
  • Build Volume: 225 x 150 x 150 mm
  • Dual Extrusion: No
  • Highest Resolution: 100 microns
  • Filament (mm): 1.75
  • Connectivity: USB, SD Card
  • Heated Bed: Yes
  • Market price: $699

Sample Review of this 3D Printer at Amazon:

“I really wish that we could do reviews in half stars because this would definitely get a 4.5 stars in my book. For the price, you can’t argue much. It’s 85% fully assembled, after you calibrate it it works straight out of the box, and they did a great job with the build. After having played with it a bit, I’d recommend this to anyone looking to get a 3D printer for themselves. The only reason’s that I can’t feel too comfortable giving them a 5/5 is the instructions are a little lacking when it comes to adding the side panels. Admittedly some of it is straightforward, there is a good deal of guess work.”

6. Best-Selling 3D Printer at Amazon: Lulzbot Taz 6 ($2,500)

Lulzbot Taz 6

The newly minted TAZ 6 is a high-end machine with a generous build volume… and a wallet-shattering price tag. But it’s also a product of open source engineering, which helps to inspire confidence for when things go wrong. The 10-inch MatterControl Touch controller lets you connect to the printer wirelessly. It includes an onboard camera, an easy to use interface and internet capabilities. If you feel like it, you can experiment with different tool heads.  There’s a large community on hand to provide support.

3D Printer Review: Lulzbot TAZ 6 Review: Bigger, Better, Stronger

The printer itself is dead-on reliable; it prints well, the documentation is great, and everything about it is liberally licensed. Bundled together with a custom version of Cura, pretty much anyone with a basic knowledge of computers can print with it. No wonder it’s one of the best-selling 3D printers at Amazon.

Features: Lulzbot Taz 6

  • Filament: All FDM filament types (ABS, PLA, PET etc.)
  • Technology: FDM
  • Build Volume: 280 x 280 x 250 mm
  • Dual Extrusion: Compatible
  • Highest Resolution: 50 microns
  • Filament (mm): 3
  • Connectivity: SD Card
  • Heated Bed: Yes
  • Market price: $2,500

Sample Review of this 3D Printer at Amazon:

“I purchased the Taz 6 about 2 weeks ago and have been working with it quite regularly since then. Mostly I’ve been printing a couple of parts I’m prototyping though I’ve downloaded and printed a couple of parts from Thingiverse as well.

I did take an excellent 3 hour class on 3d printing at a makerspace in Columbus Ohio before my purchase. After that I printed 2 parts on the makerspace’s RepRap printer. That was very helpful in getting me started.

I’m very happy with the printer thus far. Mostly I’ve printed with ABS and that has gone quite well. I’ve only had 2 or 3 truly failed parts, primarily because of failed bed adhesion. At the fastest speed (which is useful for prototyping) the quality isn’t great but I can tweak my design as I go. I’m about ready to print a production part at highest quality.”

7. Best-Selling 3D Printer at Amazon: 3D Systems Cube Gen 3 ($230)

17

If you already have some experience in 3D printing, the Cube 3 might be of interest to you. 3D Systems is a well-known company which offers professional 3D printers; the Cube series was meant to be their entry-level 3D printer for consumers. The series was discontinued in January 2016. So you can now buy the former $1000 3D printer for roughly a fifth of the price. But be aware that there’s no customer service available. Also, is something breaks, you won’t be able to replace parts easily.

Features: 3D Systems Cube Gen 3

  • Filament: PLA
  • Technology: FDM
  • Build Volume: 152 x 152 x 152 mm
  • Dual Extrusion: Yes
  • Highest Resolution: 70 microns
  • Filament (mm): n/a
  • Connectivity: Wireless connectivity
  • Heated Bed: No
  • Market price: $229.99

Sample Review of this 3D Printer at Amazon:

“It’s about as user-friendly as a 3D printer can currently get. It’s completely self-contained and works right out of the box without any leveling, etc. (it will auto-level if you want it to). The only thing I did was connect it to my wireless network and update the firmware. Anyway, my kids and I have been having a ball with this. We have been designing our own models on TinkerCad (a free online app) and downloading them to print. We all agree that this has exceeded our expectations in just about every way. My only caveat would be long-term availability of the cartridges, but the printer came with 2 full spools of filament and I purchased 6 more, so I should be set for a long time. If you have common sense and want something as “plug-n-play” as possible, this is worth a shot given current pricing!”

8. Best-Selling 3D Printer at Amazon: XYZprinting da Vinci Jr. 1.0w ($324)

xyzprinting-da-vinci-jr-1-0w

This is essentially the same desktop 3D printer as the XYZprinting da Vinci Jr. 1.0 (without the ‘w’). The only difference is the addition of WiFi connectivity. This feature allows the user to print wirelessly from anywhere within range of the WiFi network being used. However, the jump in price of nearly $75, compared to the standard da Vinci Jr. 1.0 could be hard to justify.

On the other hand, the 3D printer maintains features such as the auto leveling build platform and fully enclosed printing chamber for safety. This is especially good for children and classrooms, as the risk of someone getting burned is much lower that with an open print chamber. Also, the build plate is not heated, which eliminates the use of a lot of different filament types, but at the same time creates a safer environment for children.

Features: XYZprinting da Vinci Jr. 1.0w

  • Filament: PLA (proprietary)
  • Technology: FDM
  • Build Volume: 150 x 150 x 150 mm
  • Dual Extrusion: No
  • Highest Resolution: 100 microns
  • Filament (mm): 1.75
  • Connectivity: USB, SD Card, WiFi

9. Best-Selling 3D Printer at Amazon: FlashForge Finder ($499)

FlashForge Finder

Another printer from the FlashForge stable, the Flashforge Finder is an entry level 3D printer with a playful design. The goal is to offer simple, plug & play operation at an attractive price, but to achieve this the manufacturer opted to strip back functionality to the bare minimum.

3D Printer Review: Flashforge Finder 3D Printer Review: (Almost) For Beginners

The Finder has a build volume of 140 x 140 x 140 mm in a compact body, with a full-color display and wireless connectivity — but no heated print bed so you’re limited to printing with PLA. The package also includes both filament and a USB stick, which is basically all you need to get started right away.

Features: FlashForge Finder

  • Filament: PLA and PLA derivates
  • Technology: FDM
  • Build Volume: 140 x 140 x 140 mm
  • Dual Extrusion: No
  • Highest Resolution: 100 microns
  • Filament (mm): 1.75
  • Connectivity: USB Cable/Flash Drive, WiFi
  • Heated Bed: No
  • Market price: $499

Sample Review of this 3D Printer at Amazon:

“Does exactly what it says. It is a preassembled 3d printer that will have you printing in mere minutes (15 mins). I really like the form factor and the color LCD screen. I had originally passed over this printer and purchased the Creator Pro thinking it would be better with the dual extruder feature and larger build plate but I found that printer to be very unstable producing lackluster results. I also found that in order to print using the dual extruders, the STL file has to be setup to use dual extruders or you’ll just have to pause at a certain percent in the build and change filament colors. In the end I returned the Creator Pro and bought the Finder and I couldn’t be happier. Its so much easier to remove prints with a removable build plate too! This is the closest thing to a consumer ready 3D printer.”

10. Best-Selling 3D Printer at Amazon: XYZprinting da Vinci Jr. 1.0 ($233)

XYZprinting da Vinci Jr. 1.0So what do you get for the price? Based on this price point, the da Vinci jr. is aimed very much at budget use either in the home or the classroom. It can only print with proprietary PLA filament, for example, with a basic calibration system for the print bed, and a press-and-release extruder. A big plus, however, is that it’s an enclosed unit for improved safety, so even children can handle it.

Don’t Miss: Da Vinci Jr. 3D Printer Review: Good for Beginners?

Sure, the da Vinci Jr. is a ridiculously cheap 3D printer. But it’s not necessarily going to give you the most bang for the buck. If you are on a tight budget, but you should give consideration to whether this machine is going to be the best start for your new hobby. We found the quality of the prints only partially satisfactory – so, as an alternative, you could go for a 3D printer kit.

Features: XYZprinting da Vinci Jr. 1.0

  • Filament: PLA (proprietary)
  • Technology: FDM
  • Build Volume: 149 x 149 x 149 mm
  • Dual Extrusion: No
  • Highest Resolution: 100 microns
  • Filament (mm): 1.75

Sample Review of this 3D Printer at Amazon:

“Let’s start with a few points. This is a 3D printer and an inexpensive one at that. It is like any other high priced technology in that it has a learning curve, it is temperamental, it can be fickle. When you first get a laptop, it takes awhile to learn the nuances, to learn how to get around. You have to load software and go through the settings to make things work the way you want them to. You can’t expect to buy a machine like this (and newer technology as well) and have it out of the box working exactly like you want it to the first time.”

11. Best-Selling 3D Printer at Amazon: XYZprinting da Vinci 1.0 Pro ($500)

XYZprinting da Vinci 1.0 Pro

The XYZprinting da Vinci 1.0 Pro comes with a lot of features that the base model doesn’t have. For example, the Pro model is compatible with any 1.75 mm PLA or ABS filament. That means the user no longer has to buy XYZprinting’s proprietary filament cartridges.

It’s also one of the few 3D printers on Amazon that allows users to additionally buy a laser engraver that is compatible with the 3D printer.

The 3D printer can be connected to a computer via USB cable or WiFi and has a filament auto-loading function.

Features: XYZprinting da Vinci 1.0 Pro

  • Filament: PLA, ABS

12. Best-Selling 3D Printer at Amazon: RepRapGuru Prusa i3 V2 ($319)

RepRapGuru Prusa i3 V2 Available at Amazon

This is the RepRapGuru Prusa i3 V2. It is completely identical to the standard RepRapGuru Prusa i3 with the exceptions of its price and the added feature of an LCD display. However, an LCD display greatly improves the 3D printing experience as it gives the user an interface to work with and the 3D models can be printed from an SD card rather than having to directly connect your computer to the 3D printer for, potentially, hours.

Features: RepRapGuru Prusa i3 V2

  • Filament: All FDM filament types (ABS, PLA, PET etc.)
  • Technology: FDM
  • Build Volume: 203 x 203 x 177 mm

13. Best-Selling 3D Printer at Amazon: LulzBot Mini ($1,250)

LulzBot Mini

The best-selling 3D printer at Amazon number 8 is the LulzBot Mini. It’s a high-performance desktop 3D printer that’s been designed for ease of use. Also important: the LulzBot Mini is certified by the Free Software Foundation as Open Source Hardware, which means that the components and blueprints are freely available for modification and education.

3D Printer Review: Lulzbot Mini Review: 3D Printer In-Depth Test

Sure, it’s only got a six-inch square build volume, but this means the print head can move and accelerate faster, which means it will finish faster, and provide cleaner results. Overall, the Lulzbot Mini is proof positive that an open source philosophy and a great user experience don’t have to be mutually exclusive.

Features: LulzBot Mini

  • Filament: All FDM filament types (ABS, PLA, PET etc.)
  • Technology: FDM
  • Build Volume: 152 x 152 x 158 mm

Qidi Tech’s new 3D printer model “X-one” is a cost-effective desktop 3D printer with a relatively small cubic build volume. The frame of the X-one is all metal which makes the 3d printer stable. If you are running into trouble, the company’s after-sales team supplies technical support and lifetime service.

Features: Qidi Tech X-One

15. Best-Selling 3D Printer at Amazon: Hictop Prusa i3 Mk8 3DP-18 DIY Kit ($316)

Amazon 3D printer Hictop Prusa i3 Mk8 DIY Kit

The Hictop MK8 has an interesting tweak to the original design. It features an alarm to notify you when your filament is running low, so that you’ll never be left hanging in the middle of a print job. If this is a recurring problem for you (and you find it difficult to judge just by glancing at the spool) then Hictop MK8 has the solution. One other respect that makes it special is the huge build volume of 269 x 210 x 195 mm. Be aware that this printer is a DIY kit.

Overall this experience has been great. Would I build another? Probably not, but doing it once gives you a familiarity with the device you can’t get from a prebuilt non customizable device. I’m already thinking of upgrades. Would I recommend this device to others? Sure thing with just a caveat – be prepared to take 2 days before your first print.

Sample Review of this 3D Printer at Amazon:

“Let’s be clear, buying a 3D printer for $500 is exactly what you think it is. Any other system that is shipped as a complete unit is triple this cost to get high quality results. It’s unfair to slam the makers of this product if you’re looking for high quality at a low price point. However, if you are patient, you can tune this machine to be great.”

Sample Review of this 3D Printer at Amazon:

A couple of instructions left me scratching my head but if you have past experience with electronics and are good with mechanical hardware you should have no problem. They send spare parts and circuitry is of decent quality. Be sure not to reverse polarity unless its the threaded wire or else you risk burning up your board. Software and Calibration will be your biggest headaches so be patient, and have a nice carafe of coffee ready.”

Sample Review of this 3D Printer at Amazon:

“I have owned my MakerGear M2 for over a year now and will say that I think this is the best consumer level 3d printer available and has been for a while. The M2 is constructed from a welded steel frame, precision machined aluminum parts and high quality linear components. This sets it apart for all the other machines out there. I am a mechanical engineer and have designed my own cnc machines in the past but when I saw the M2 I knew there was no way I could design anything better given the price of this machine. Like all 3d printers there is a learning curve when you first get the machine but MakerGear was always there to help out. They answer emails quickly, provide good service and you can always find them through their google group or IRC channel.”
