A DIY teleprompter is coming to Kickstarter – it‘s partially 3D printable and may be the answer to those hours spent editing out your Ums and Ahs on camera.

Do you create videos for fun or for work and often find yourself unable to remember exactly what you wanted to say? Then a DIY teleprompter might be your best bet.

Richard Smith is a UK based maker with an interest in film, design, and robotics. He is now combining all of his passions in a new project which is coming soon to Kickstarter.

The idea is a 3D printed telePrompter called PTP2. The pitch for this prompter is: “PTP2 Teleprompter for studio use with iPad and Tablet, available as a build your own 3D printed project, kit or finished product.”

Smith has been running his own business for 17 years while working on product design, production, and robotics. His specialty is 3D printing and design. However, Smith says of his introduction video below: “I am no presenter and I assure you, without the PTP2 I would not have been able to make this presentation.”

If you feel you’re handy enough to make your own PTP2, Smith is offering the chance to download the 3D printable files and plans for just £15. However, he is first looking for feedback on his campaign before its launch. Check it out, here.

Features of the 3D Printable PTP2 Teleprompter

For those who don’t feel that they are able to make their own PTP2, you’ll have to be willing to pay £200. Smith will send you a teleprompter which works straight out of the box.

However, if you’re a 3D printing buff, then choose the parts kit which allows you access to the downloadable files. With this pledge, you’ll also receive; a two-way acrylic mirror and blackout hood so all you can simply add your 3D printed parts.

Choosing your level of DIY capabilities is essential for pledging to this project. However, there’s no need to worry about whether the prompter will work with your camera. Smith adds that it should be simple to adapt the PTP2 to a wide range of cameras.

He also claims that:

“A teleprompter adds a professional touch to any studio making on-camera presentations, it makes them smoother, faster and more consistent. A teleprompter will improve your presenters confidence and allow them to really engage with your audience by delivering that punchline while retaining solid eye contact.”

If you don’t feel like waiting for Smith’s campaign and are handy with a 3D printer, then check out Flowalistik’s DIY teleprompter instead. However, be warned that this project is also DIY heavy. Check out his YouTube video, here.
