When it comes to picking between Chinese 3D printer manufacturer Creality’s cheaper options, the Ender 3 has long been our favorite. It boasts a low price under $200, has decent print volume, is open source, easy to assemble and can produce high-quality prints.
The upgraded Ender-3 Pro looked to improve on its predecessor, but it lacked enough punch for the price to usurp its older counterpart.
If you already have one of these printers, there are many upgrades you can make to your existing Ender 3 or 3 Pro.
But the Creality Ender 3X, a lesser-known Ender offering, is on the market. Though we haven’t had a chance to try one out for ourselves, we have pored over the specs and done a little guesswork on the machine to help you decide if it’s worth your money.
This machine is almost identical in specs to the Ender 3 and the Ender 3 Pro, however, it does differ in a few significant ways.
Most notable is the 3X’s tempered glass print bed, a welcome change from the detachable magnetic heated bed in the Ender 3 Pro. The glass print bed is mounted on the aluminum plate, which improves material adhesion, makes the surface flatter and simplifies removing prints.
Compared to the MK-8 model, the upgraded extruder reduces the risk of clogging.
The machine should run more quietly thanks to this.
We don’t yet know if the nozzles are the same or different sizes, but either way, more nozzles are always better than one. If they’re in different sizes, they’ll allow you to go for finer detail or faster printing (the smaller the nozzle diameter, the better the quality but slower the print speed). If they’re all the same size, you’ll have a stack of replacements in case of wear or clogging.
This is a perk made popular by the Prusa i3 MK3 3D printer and one which other Creality printers also come with. Power outages or disconnections should be no problem for 3X because it can fully recover and resume the print when it’s back up.
