Epic has released RealityCapture 1.5, with improvements to texturing, new functionalities, an expanded list of export file formats, and more.
Headlining the update are texturing improvements, the most notable of which is a “refined” texturing algorithm, which Epic says should work to double texturing speeds within the popular photogrammetry software – which we ranked among the best on the market.
Support for photoconsistency-based texturing has also been added, as has functionality for texture defragmentation that should improve texturing efficiency and quality.
Additionally, users can opt to block certain parts of a model – otherwise known as “masked areas” – from being included when applying textures. This should prevent aspects like background colors from affecting textured surfaces, ultimately leading to cleaner and sharper textures.
The ability to disable watertight meshes, in which a 3D model’s edges and surfaces are seamlessly connected, has also been added. By doing so, users will create non-watertight meshes, resulting in smaller file sizes and faster load times.
Epic has also added support for relative paths, making it easier to transfer projects between disks, while new export formats – USD, COLMAP, and 16-bit PNG files – expand the software’s compatibility with other 3D modeling and photogrammetry tools.
The full release notes for RealityCapture 1.5 have more information, as well as a few additional features, functionalities, and bug fixes not covered here, so be sure to check those out, too.
