Do you own an Ultimaker 2? With the new extrusion upgrade kit, you can enhance your 3D printer to the same functionality as an Ultimaker 2+.
The Ultimaker 2+ and Ultimaker 2 Extended+ range of 3D printers were recently launched at CEBIT 2016 with some great innovations, and Ultimaker promised there would be backwards compatibility for their old machines.
So, to fulfill their pledge, they’ve launched the Extrusion upgrade kit for the Ultimaker 2 and Ultimaker 2 Extended. The kit will be showcased at SXSW 2016 later this week.
Once you’ve got your hands on one of these kits, you can upgrade your machine yourself in just an hour or less. In an announcement post, Ultimaker CTO Siert Wijnia said:
“Not only do we introduce new features for our 3D printers based on what we think is valuable, we listen to the needs and wishes of our users. By introducing the Extrusion upgrade kit we allow our Ultimaker 2 users to benefit from our latest technology.”
It has to be said, this is a brilliant solution for Ultimaker 2 owners to enjoy the same innovations as the Ultimaker 2+. Read our detailed review to see the benefits.
What’s in the Ultimaker 2+ Extrusion Upgrade Kit?
The easy-to-install upgrade will give your Ultimaker 2 printer the same abilities as the latest Ultimaker 2+ models. This includes a geared feeder for increased reliability, meaning the feeder allows you to easily swap filaments and choose the correct pressure for your filament.
The upgrade also includes swappable nozzles for greater control, meaning you can easily switch between 0.25, 0.4, 0.6 and 0.8 mm nozzles for greater detail or faster print speed.
In addition, you can expect optimized airflow for smoother prints, thanks to the new fancaps that ensure airflow is aimed perfectly below the nozzle and equally from both sides.
Ultimaker claim they’re continuously realizing the next level of 3D printing and that the main reason they’re able to offer such innovation is all down to their global open source community.
If you’re eager to get your hands on a kit, you can place your order now from an Ultimaker reseller. Plus, to make sure the whole process is nice and simple, Ultimaker have released a film that walks you through the installation process step-by-step.
