As if that Rubik’s Cube I’ve been working on for the past forty years wasn’t hard enough, maker Oskar van Deventer has created a 3D printed 17 layer x 17 layer x 17 layer puzzle cube that may never be solved!  Wouldn’t it be great to give this Thing of the week to that 18-year-old who can solve your Rubik’s Cube in like ten minutes (we all know that cheeky scoundrel!) and just watch him squirm?  But I digress…

Oskar van Deventer calls this monstrosity “Over the Top” and believe me, it’s aptly named.  This puzzle cube was unveiled at the New York Puzzle Party Symposium (Who knew that was a thing?!  Needless to say, it’s already on my calendar for next year.) and went on to be granted a Guinness World Record for world’s largest order Rubik’s Cube.  At 8.78 x 6.85 x 3.82 inches (22.29 x 17.39 x 9.69 cm), you’re definitely going to need two hands (if not three or four) – not to mention the dexterity of a Swiss watch maker – to rotate and align van Deventer’s cube but just imagine the forearm muscles you could develop with this thing!
