Building on the success of its popular Titan extruder and V6 hot end, E3D launches the lightweight and highly compact Titan Aero extruder-hot end 2-in-1.

Early in 2016 E3D — British producer of pretty much anything for 3D printing machines — launched its Titan extruder. We liked it.

As a capable and lightweight piece of kit, the Titan fits nicely into E3D’s array of maker-favorite upgrades.

Similarly popular from the company’s offerings is the V6 hot end — itself a sophisticated and svelte component.

Together, these two pieces make for an effective Bowden arrangement and — thanks to their lightness — responsive direct arrangement. But what if the bods at E3D were to combine them into their own thing?

Well, that’s exactly what they’ve gone and done.

The Titan Aero is E3D’s hot new thing, and with it comes a raft of features and benefits.

What is the E3D Titan Aero

In short, the Titan Aero is a combination of the compact frames and well-engineered features of the Titan and V6.

Much like the Titan before it, the Titan Aero claims a short and constrained filament path. Since the filament travels to the hot end with virtually no free space to move in, it is highly unlikely to buckle and jam. This is good for experimentation with flexible filaments.

Similarly with the extruder so close to the hot end it benefits from a more responsive retraction, which is also good for regular filament prints.

The killer feature of the Titan Aero is in the dimensions achieved when designing the Titan and V6 together. E3D’s release states:

“By combining a hot end and extruder, Titan Aero is ultra-compact. It offers an extra 25mm of Z-axis build height compared to a V6 and Titan combo. Thanks to its compactness, Titan Aero is also very rigid, allowing it to work with the fastest of printers and cope better with knocks and bumps.”

With an all-metal design derived from the V6, E3D claims the Titan Aero is good for print temperatures up to 400 degree Celsius. The kit works with both 1.75mm and 3mm diameter filaments, and comes in a mirrored version too, for dual setups.

Available prebuilt or kit format for you to upgrade your Titan extruder, it seems an exciting addition to E3D’s offerings. With the company’s product lines modular and interchangeable, it should sit as a sophisticated piece that plays nicely with your other E3D printing parts.
