Bambu Lab has issued a recall to all A1 owners, following last week’s soft callback extended only to visibly damaged units, amid uncertainty about the cause of damage to the 3D printer’s heatbed cable. The company has now asked all customers to stop using the A1 3D printer until it can complete an investigation into the problem and has provided two recall options.

In light of the issue, Bambu Lab is offering A1 users to return the product for a full refund and an $80 voucher toward another Bambu Lab 3D printer. Alternatively, users can opt to keep their A1 and replace the heatbed themselves when the new part becomes available (where permissible by law) and receive a $120 voucher for any Bambu Lab product plus six months of additional warranty coverage on the affected printer.

The A1 safety concern first arose last week when Bambu Lab announced it had received “feedback concerning unstable temperature and heating issues” that it linked to strain at the heatbed cable’s root – the connecting point between the printer and cable.

At that time, Bambu Lab expressed regret over the cable’s strain relief design and said it would send a strain relief addon to all A1 owners, but believed the issue was the result of product mishandling during shipping or user assembly. It’s now less sure of the cause.

The company isn’t yet saying all Bambu Lab A1s are flawed or dangerous (malfunction has been found in only 0.1% of the printers so far) but recommends all customers stop using the 3D printer until things are clearer:

“While the number of faulty printers is very small, we take the safety of our customers very seriously, and until we learn more about what exactly causes the heatbed cable problem, we recommend everyone stop using the printer for their safety.” Bambu Lab said in its blog post yesterday. “At this time, we are unable to determine with 100% confidence what causes the problem and we prefer to choose the safe option, which is to recommend everyone to stop using the printer until more information is available.”

The A1 Mini is not affected by the heatbed cable issue or recall.

A1 owners should read Bambu Lab’s recall blog article for more information and visit the company’s recall registration page to select their compensation option.
