Craig McNaughton is a maker and fan of The Legend of Zelda. He recently came up with the idea of creating a full set of weapons from Breath of the Wild. He explains that he has created the Master Sword and has now 3D printed the Soldier’s Bow too.

Better yet, McNaughton has made the files available over on Thingiverse so anyone interested in 3D printing their own Zelda weapons can do so too. He plans on creating further weapons, so keep an eye on his Thingiverse profile for more.

To create the Soldier’s Bow, McNaughton closely examined many online references to make the bow as close to the game version as possible. McNaughton taught himself how to use 3DS Max to create the bow and spent 20 hours over a few weeks modeling it.

3D Printing the Soldier’s Bow

After the 3D model was complete, McNaughton sent it to the printer. However, this was no small task and required 120 hours of printing time. The protrusions around the handle took around 12 hours each to complete.

The resulting bow is over a meter long – McNaughton explains that this is based on the size of the Master Sword and a commercial 3D printed Traveller’s Bow which he bought. Of course, it’s possible to scale this up or down as you prefer.

The final touches involved priming and polishing the main shaft. McNaughton chose to leave details of the 3D printed bow rough to ensure it was true to the style of the bow in the game. Finally, color was added using airbrushing.

The result looks fantastic and is almost as tall as McNaughton’s eight-year-old son. If you’re interested in 3D printing your own version of the Soldier’s bow, you can download McNaughton’s files from Thingiverse.
