Exclusive interview with Fernando Sosa, the “political sculptor” who created the 3D printed Donald Trump butt plug.
Like many Americans, Fernando Sosa has great cause to be outraged by Donald Trump. The self-made millionaire and aspiring candidate for the presidency made a series of inflammatory comments about Mexican immigrants. But Sosa decided to do something about it, designing and selling a 3D printed Donald Trump Butt Plug from his Shapeways store.
We reckon the butt plug is an incendiary piece of political satire, and called Sosa to ask him about the process and motivations behind his creation.
“I started making it last Thursday, I finished it on Friday at around 5am,” he says. “I do my best work when I work late at night. The beautiful thing about 3D printing is that as soon as you’re done with the design end, you can put it up for sale.”
Reaction to the Donald Trump butt plug wasn’t immediate, however. “So it went up for sale on Friday in the morning. It didn’t really get publicity until Monday at 2 o’clock in the morning, when someone put it up on Facebook, and since then it’s been viral for about half a week.”
And how many has Sosa sold to date? “I’ve sold about 60 or 65 butt plugs, and hopefully will sell a litte more.” Let’s clarify this point, it seems important. Somewhere in the world, there are potentially 65 people who have bought Donald Trump butt plugs.
What about legal action? Isn’t Sosa worried? “I called his election campaign office and left a message, asking if Donald Trump wanted a butt plug of his own. His people said they would pass on the message and would call me back, but they haven’t called me back.”
The motivation behind the Donald Trump butt plug is pure and simple. Righteous indignation over Trump’s racist remarks. “I wanted to make something that would make Donald Trump really angry. I want him to picture his face going up people’s butt holes. Maybe he will try to sue me.”
Donald Trump Butt Plug is One of Many
Sosa has previous experience with 3D printed controversy, having made butt plugs out of political figures like Kim Jong-Un, George W. Bush, and Vladimir Putin. He’s also the chap responsible for the 3D printed Left Shark, which caused Katy Perry no end of headaches. But the matter of Trump is somewhat more personal.
In a statement on the product page: “I usually make butt plugs to insult dictators, homophobes and politicians. However, when I heard Donald Trump’s remarks about Mexicans and Latinos from South America I was extremely angry. You see, I was born and raised in Mexico and moved to United States when I was 11 years old.”
“Next time you decide to insult a whole race in order to further your political career or get yourself on TV […] remember we are engineers, we are 3D printers, we are doctors, we clean your house and we cook the food you eat so Don’t Fuck with us. “
